Oh hey there

Welp, forgot to update this blog in several months! Been reflecting lately on how best to use this space. Was thinking of ditching it altogether; just letting it sit as an archive of an experiment attempted, then abandoned. But it’s such a pretty space, here. And I do like blogging. Finally got the Squarespace App so I can blog away on my phone.

Wait… wasn’t I already doing that on Twitter & Instagram (and increasingly occasionally, Facebook)? Yes, yes, all the media of all the social. Here’s the thing, though: a part me misses the part of the Internet that isn’t those platforms and isn’t so immediately audience-oriented/driven. Also, I started to see recently (in part thanks to Jenny Odell’s excellent How to Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy) the extent to which my online thinking/writing process has been overtaken by the character limit of Twitter, the conventions of Instagram captions—these are genres of writing, after all.

I miss the wider Internet and I miss the wider space of a good, old-fashioned (!) blogpost. After finally updating and reorganizing other pages/components of this website… and after creating a new linktree-esque page that’s just for The Latest updates & announcements, I realized I could return to this space, this blog in a different way. Why not use this page as an actual blog and not so much, as it was before, a series of promotional content (which is already utterly covered by social media platforms and now the quick n easy link repository aka dump that is The Latest page)? Oh how I missed writing loooong sentences on the Interwebs.

And I don’t know, maybe this renewed interest in blogging stems from the pandemic (!!) and being on the Internet more than ever and sometimes actually wanting to be sort of alone on the Internet, in an introverted way. The introvert’s Internet! Blogging to my heart’s content. What a concept. (Thursday—also what a concept.)

So what can one expect on here from now on? Rambling posts like this one, for sure! :) And yes, emoticons. 😄 Emojis, too. Links to poems? Oui oui. Longer quotes or quotes that I don’t know how to shorten / don’t want to have to find a way to shorten. Music recs, even (new Fiona Apple happening tomorrow!). Asides. Soliloquies. (Totally misspelled that at first.) Snack journeys. Emotional outbursts. Lists. Further possibilities?? Mhm.
